So, 2015 came to an end and this was an eventful year with some unexpected anime that turned out good and the ones that I did expect to do good did not. So this list here will rank out the anime I feel are the best that released this year.
Anime based around an MMORPG setting are present in large amount. But, very few anime actually have the protagonist as a bad guy with immensely powerful powers. Add in a bunch of eccentric supporting characters and a gripping storyline and this anime becomes one of a unique anime out there. Do give this a try if you like to watch Action anime with really cool fight scenes.
Haikyuu: Season 2
Haikyuu was one of my favorite anime of 2014. This sequel was one of my most anticipated anime of this year and it did not disappoint a bit. The art style, the animation, and the overall feel is similar to the first season and this is actually a good thing as the first season ended at a high note and this anime capitalizes on it brilliantly!
OPM is a satire comedy based around a superhero who is actually bored as he cannot find a villain that is good enough to face him. Because, the MC is so powerful he can kill villains in one punch. This anime is funny and has a real brilliant artwork that makes it fun to watch. PS: If you have seen the memes of a bald guy in a yellow suit, it most probably is about the MC of this anime.
Kekkai Sensen was an unexpected hit anime of the year for me. This anime is funny, mysterious and gripping and it manages to do so in just 12 episodes. There isn’t much to say about this anime than the fact that if you haven’t seen this anime yet, I wholeheartedly recommend you to watch this. Also, the OST are outstanding.
Sadly, this season had a quite a large amount of Harem anime and not much of a Romance anime. Gladly, there was one exception in the form of Ore Monogatari! This anime here is an unusual romance anime where the guy is a huge guy who looks like a Yakuza member and the girl is tiny who looks way too young for the guy as a romantic interest. But, this anime does not care and after a while, you won’t too as the story is so good and the scenes are so beautifully created that it actually feels good watching this anime.
Non Non Biyori Repeat
Ren-chon returns. She is one of my most favorite characters from any anime makes a return in this sequel for one of the sleeper hits of 2014. Repeat is an anime which is calm, scenic and at times funny. It’s lead characters are 4 young schoolgirls in a small farming village in Tokyo and follows their daily lives in this idyllic place that is just beautiful to watch.
Gintama Season 3
What can I say about this anime that hasn’t been said already? Gintama is sort of the best satire comedy out there and this new season is no exception. Each and every episode is so damn good that it makes rewatching them worth it. Also, this season has some cool story arcs that make the anime switch gears between being a serious anime to a funny one.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans
MSG: Iron-blooded Orphans is another entry into a long list of anime bearing this series’s name. What makes this different is that it does not take place in the main storyline but instead is standalone making it easier to watch and understand even to the uninitiated to this series. Also, this anime has a character with a ship full of women who are in love with him. In short, the best character of the year. And, the funny thing is that the anime is not even a harem anime. Give this a watch. Seriously.
Shokugeki no Soma
Food Porn. That’s the apt description of this anime if there is one. Shokugeki is an ecchi anime based around cooking and well it’s fantastic. I was really confused at first as to how do you mix ecchi with cooking? Well, I am no longer confused. This anime is way different than any on the list and besides having ecchi as of its genre, it also has a good storyline to keep you interested long enough.
Hibike in some ways is similar to K-On! The lead characters are all females, they all play some kind of instruments, and the music is fantastic. But, Hibike is about a brass band whereas K-On! was about a group of girls playing music. Besides that Hibike has one of the best storylines and actually makes an effort to tell the backstory of different characters and their motivations to do a certain thing. Also, did I say the anime had cute girls?
Death Parade is definitely the underdog of this year. Death Parade takes on the topic of Death and Morality and adds a nice spin to it. This anime has a nice art style as well as a very engaging storyline that makes this anime worth the watch.
Aragoto is a continuation of the first season and continues where it left off. The best thing about this anime are the fight scenes. They are absolutely beautiful and stunning. I don’t have much to say about this anime other than the fact that it’s a worthy sequel to the first one and must, at least, be given a watch!
